OECD: CAI finalizes framework convention on AI, Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law.
On March 15, 2024, the Council of Europe released a statement on the finalization of the Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence, Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law by the Committee on Artificial Intelligence.
It is the first-of-a-kind treaty which will ensure that the rise of artificial intelligence upholds Council of Europe legal standards in human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.
The legal framework covers artificial intelligence (AI) systems throughout their whole life cycles and will be open for countries all over the world to join and meet the high ethical standard.
The draft text will be referred to the Committee of Ministers for adoption and subsequently opened for signature.
