DATA PROTECTION
Italian Data Protection Authority: public consultation on new guidelines on cookies launched.
The Italian Data Protection Authority has launched a public consultation on the rules for the use of cookies by web site managers. The European regulation on privacy, in fact, despite not having changed the rules relating to cookies and other tracking tools, has strengthened the power of control of people, focusing both on the "unambiguous" character of consent to the processing of personal data, and on the implementation of the principles of data protection already from the design and for default settings (so-called "privacy by design and by default"). This consequently makes some clarifications necessary on the correct ways to make the information online to network users and to acquire their consent when necessary.
The Italian Data protection Authority has therefore decided to address again the issue of the use of cookies and other tracking tools in order to integrate its previous interventions of 2014 and 2015, in light of the indications provided by the Committee that brings together the European Guarantors (Edpb ) in the Guidelines of May 4, 2020. And this also because of the long interval of time that has elapsed, the monitoring carried out on the concrete implementation of the rules prescribed at the time and the ever-increasing diffusion of new technologies that present potential pervasiveness not yet codified.
