What's new in cookies and tracking after the EU Commission's 'Cookie Pledge'.

In this half-day conference, Avv. Alessandro del Ninno summarised the main regulatory innovations in the field of tracking technologies and online identifiers that characterised the technological scenarios between the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024. Subjects of the practical examination were, in particular:

• The EDPB Guidelines of 15 November 2023 on the technical scope of Article 5.3 of the ePrivacy Directive: identification of new and emerging tracking techniques covered by the Directive;
• The EU Commission's "Cookie Pledge" of 19 December 2023 and the development of general principles on advertising cookies aimed at simplifying their management and personalised advertising choices by consumers;
• the ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union on the IAB's Transparency and Consent Framework mechanism.
