As part of the Paradigma training course “From Data Protection Officer to Data Compliance Officer”, Avv. Alessandro Del Ninno, Partner at FIVERS Studio Legale e Tributario, took part in the first day of the programme, dedicated to the functional role of the Data Protection Officer, the related duties and the main organisational aspects connected with the performance of the role. Avv. Del Ninno’s presentation, entitled “The DPO as the Natural Point of Reference for Overseeing the Application of All Digital Regulations. The Most Appropriate Choices in Terms of Professional Profile, Organisational Positioning and Relations with the AI Officer”, focused on the evolving role of the Data Protection Officer within the new digital regulatory framework.
Particular attention was devoted to the progressive expansion of the areas in which the DPO is called upon to perform an oversight and coordination function extending beyond data protection alone, and to the resulting organisational choices that companies need to make with regard to the positioning of the function, the professional requirements of the person appointed and interaction with the new roles involved in artificial intelligence governance, starting with the AI Officer.
The presentation formed part of a broader training programme addressing the DPO’s evolving responsibilities, including relations with the supervisory authority, management of data subject requests and inspections, maintenance of records of processing activities, oversight of artificial intelligence solutions, governance of the Privacy and AI supply chain, international data transfers, and the management of security and data breach risks.
The event therefore provided an opportunity to examine, from a practical perspective, the transformation of the DPO from a specialist data protection role into an increasingly central component of an organisation’s broader digital compliance governance framework.
