Privacy: sanctions of over 300 million in 2020.
According to the "Statistical Report 2020, privacy sanctions in Europe" published by the Federprivacy Observatory, during the last year in Europe sanctions amounting to about 307 million euros would have been paid for damages to subjects who could operate in violation of the regulations for the protection of personal data and therefore of the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation).
Overall, the sanctions imposed in a total of 30 countries belonging to the so-called EEA (European Economic Area), therefore the 27 of the Union plus Great Britain and the 3 member states of the EFTA (European Free Trade Association), would have been 341 133 of which were disbursed by the Spanish Authority alone for a total of 8 million euros. On the other hand, the productions produced in Italy would have been considerably less, just 35, but for a much higher amount: 58.1 million euros. 26 those imposed in Romania but for much more contained figures, while from the point of view of the economic contribution to the total the most significant would have been recorded in France with more than 138 million euros imposed through just 8 fines. The overall amount of sanctions issued by the British and German authorities is also lower than in Italy: 45 and 37.3 million euros respectively with 5 and 3 measures.
As regards the average amount of penalties, also in this case the primacy would go to France (17.3 million) followed by Germany (12.4) and the United Kingdom (9). Almost 60% of the violations could refer to non-compliance with the regulations on the formulation of consent to the processing of data and on transparency, finally it should be noted that the most affected comparison would seem to have been that of activities on the Internet (in particular e-commerce ) with almost 150 million euros in penalties.
