Within the framework of the G7 Cybersecurity Working Group, the Italian National Cybersecurity Agency (ACN) contributed to the publication of the joint document on the migration to post-quantum cryptography (PQC), “Preparing for the Post-Quantum Era: A Call to Action”.

Proposed by the French Cybersecurity Agency (ANSSI) and negotiated by the cybersecurity agencies of the G7 countries and the European Union during the first half of 2026, the document recommends a coordinated effort between governments and private-sector stakeholders to facilitate the transition to PQC and thereby strengthen the security of their ICT systems.

Highlighting that the threat posed by attacks enabled by quantum computers represents not only a technological risk, but also an economic and national security risk for G7 countries, the document calls for greater awareness of quantum-related risks, the development of national migration strategies and enhanced research in this field.

The document follows the G7 Cybersecurity Working Group statement setting out lines of action to support the transition to PQC, to which ACN contributed in 2025 during the Canadian Presidency of the Working Group.

Those earlier lines of action are intended to provide medium-sized and large public- and private-sector organisations with practical guidance for transitioning from traditional public-key cryptography to post-quantum cryptography, addressing, among other matters, governance arrangements, the establishment of suitably qualified teams and budgetary considerations.
